THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised in honour of a beloved regular at a South Side pub who lost her life to cancer.

Patrons at Victoria Bar came together for a virtual fundraiser on Saturday to coin in cash in memory of Claire Hamilton.

The Castlemilk woman was a well-known face in the Victoria Road watering hole and customers pledged to give all proceeds from the Big Night In to Maggie's Centres cancer charity.

Following an evening of entertainment on the pub's social media channels, the bar's owners were delighted to confirm more than £2700 had been raised.

Manager Annie Kane said: “As a local pub with a real sense of community, the Victoria Bar was hugely saddened by the loss of Claire.

"Our Big Night In provided our community with a way to not only connect during this difficult time, but also pay our respects and raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause."

As we previously reported, Claire’s daughter Erin Coyle took part in Maggie’s Glasgow Run 50 Miles fundraising challenge with proceeds from the Big Night In being added to her efforts.

It means nearly £6000 has been raised in total to honour Claire.

Annie continued: "It was fantastic to see that so many of our friends and regulars tuned into the virtual event and I would personally like to thank our entertainment and the Coyle family for making the evening a big success.

"Many of our regulars live on their own and our pub community is a lifeline for them, we will continue to do what we can to support them during these difficult circumstances.”
