SIR Alex Ferguson has revealed he feels he let his wife down after not telling a Rangers director to "f**k off" after being asked if his wife is Catholic.

"He says, 'I believe she is Catholic, were you married in a chapel?'
"I said, 'No we got married in the registry office,' and he says, 'Oh, that's okay.'
"I should have told him to f*** off. I let myself down and I let my wife down, that was the most important thing. She was a devout Catholic."
The pair tied the knot in 1966 after first meeting in 1964.
