A PARKHEAD shopkeeper has told of his shock after learning one of his regular customers was killed.
Murder cops are investigating the death of Valerijs Litvins, who was found dead in Burgher Street flat on Sunday night.
A local shopkeeper – who did not wish to be named – described the 45-year-old father as a “decent, nice man”.
He said: “I don’t know if it is his wife or partner but they were regularly in the shop.
“He would come in for his scratch cards and tobacco. He was a quiet person, pleasant and nice to talk to and decent.
“There wasn’t anything unusual about him at all. Whenever he came in here he was no bother, his English wasn’t the best but we would have a wee chat when he’d bring in his winners. He’d say: Nothing big this time, hopefully next time.
“I’m really shocked to hear he’s passed.”
Police remained on the scene yesterday afternoon.
Uniformed officers guarded the taped-off close as workers barricaded the windows of the ground-floor flat.
His neighbours had to enter the building via the backcourt as police carried out their investigations.
Detective Chief Inspector Gillian Grant of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team said: “Officers have been in the area carrying out enquiries, checking CCTV and speaking to local residents in an effort to establish the circumstances surrounding his death, however, we are still keen to hear from anyone who may have information that would assist our investigation.
“We would be interested to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage from the street, or anyone who may have heard a disturbance in the area that night to contact us.
“Any details can be passed to police at the incident room on 0141 305 4530, quoting incident number 4216 of Sunday, March 7, 2017. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
His death is not thought to be football related.
