WORKS could be carried out on Pollokshaws viaduct if city planners approve plans.
Network Rail want to install four brackets onto the viaduct to support two portal structures. They have to ask for permission to carry out the work due to the structure’s listed status.
A planning statement said: “The works are part of the East Kilbride Enhancement Project which proposes to provide an enhanced electric train service between East Kilbride and Glasgow Central.
“The project contributes towards the Scottish Government target to decarbonise the railway by 2035 and encourage greater modal shift from car journeys in/out of Glasgow city centre, reducing overall transport emissions.”
It adds: “Network Rail proposes to electrify this part of the GBK line and these works are preparatory works to install four wall brackets to allow two portal structures (carrying the electrified line) to be erected. The portals and the cabling will be installed at a later date.”
The Pollokshaws viaduct passes over the White Cart River and forms part of the east boundary edge of Pollok Park.
A decision is expected on the works by May 3.
