A MAN denied attempting to murder a policeman by choking him.
John Dow, 36, is accused of assaulting Constable Paul Gavan by seizing him by the neck, choking him, rendering him unconscious and repeatedly punching him on the head at Mitchell Street, Coatbridge, on July 26.
Dow is also charged with seizing Constable George Hay by the neck and choking him to his injury, acting in a threatening manner and resisting arrest.

At the High Court in Glasgow he pleaded not guilty to all charges and lodged a special defence of self defence to the alleged attacks on the two police officers.
No trial date has been set and judge Lord Matthews continued the case to a further preliminary hearing in June.
