An interactive floral installation is taking place this Easter weekend in Govan, giving locals a space to reflect on the past year.

Based at Govan and Linthouse Parish Church, 'A New Hope', created by husband and wife florist team, Flowers Vermilion, has seen flowers and foliage decorate the doorway to the historic building in the South Side.

Locals are being invited to take part in the outdoors installation as part of their daily walk or exercise by taking photographs and taking away flowers.

They will also be invited to respond to set questions and encouraged to response privately to statements allowing for reflection on living with Covid-19 in the past year.

Terri Hawkins, Florist for Flowers Vermilion, said: “At Flowers Vermilion we have a fine art and sculpture background as well as experience of working alongside communities.

"This has been a great project to be part of with an exciting brief, a large canvas to work with and the opportunity to work alongside local people.

Glasgow Times:

"It’s excellent to work in our own city of Glasgow, especially on an installation seeking to brighten the local area and bring joy and hope at this time.”

'A New Hope' will be on display until April 5, with the interactive elements available April 3 from 10am until 4pm, and April 4 from 10:30am until 1pm.

The installation is part of a larger programme of events for the Easter Bank Holiday weekend at Govan & Linthouse Parish Church, which have been supported by The Bellahouston Trust and Faith in Community Scotland

Jamie Goodwin, arts and worship development worker for Govan and Linthouse Parish Church, said: “We’re delighted to have our local volunteers work alongside Flowers Vermilion to offer what is sure to be an excellent floral installation full of colour and a real celebration of this time of year.

"Lockdown has been incredibly tough for many in our community and we hope that as restrictions begin to ease and vaccination roll out continues people will begin to see light at the end of the tunnel.

"It’s incredibly important to reflect on what has happened and we believe A New Hope will provide an opportunity to look back whilst also encouraging those to be hopeful for what is to come.’’
