A “DANGEROUS” fire hazard could cause chaos on one of Glasgow’s busiest motorway, a union has warned.
A pile of fly-tipped rubbish has piled in an under passage below the M8 near Blochairn and GMB union has warned drivers will be at risk should the dump go up in flames.
It’s understood part of the waste will need to be removed by a specialist team due to the potentially hazardous materials.
Chris Mitchell, convenor of branch 40, said: “This is a fire hazard that could become dangerous for vehicles travelling along the motorway.
“Fly-tipping in Glasgow is becoming increasingly worrying, especially under motorways.

“Sites like this are popping up all over the city.”
The area, which is partially owned by Transport Scotland, is currently in the process of being cleared of rubbish – including mattresses, fridges and fences.
Transport Scotland said it was “aware” of the issue after a padlocked gate securing the site
had been forced open on a regular basis over the last few months.
The body is arranging for the rubbish to be cleared and organising a special collector for the removal of certain items.
Longer-term measures, such as concrete barriers, are also being considered to resolve the issue permanently.

A spokesman for Amey, the company responsible for maintaining the south west trunk road network, said: “We are aware of a high level of flytipping at the M8 Junction 1 and M80 Junction 1.
"The gates to this area have been padlocked on several occasions and have been removed by fly tippers.
"An inspection has been carried out by our Environmental team and they have recommended that the waste be removed by a specialist contractor.
"We are working with Transport Scotland on plans for a permanent barrier to prevent further illegal access to this site.”
