FORMER Celtic striker Charlie Nicholas has lashed out at Rangers fans - claiming that Saturday's scenes in Glasgow city centre show why the Premiership champions will NEVER be allowed to join the English set-up.

Thousands of Gers fans took to the streets to celebrate their top-flight  title win at the weekend, with the mood eventually turning as supporters clashed with police after ignored lockdown restrictions to congregate.

Senior members from the Scottish Government have since slammed the crowd's actions, and further arrests are expected in the coming weeks following the shameful scenes in the heart of Glasgow.

For Nicholas, the scenes on Saturday night showed why the likes of Rangers will never be able to cut ties with Scottish football and join the English set-up - but the pundit insists that his old club Celtic have their own problems too.

He told the Daily Express: "The actions of some Rangers fans show exactly why they will never get to England. It was like back in the Dark Ages again.

"They will never get true respect because they don't know how to celebrate.

"Celtic fans get too political when they celebrate and Rangers fans just don't know how to celebrate.

"That is why they will never get British football.

"Recently people were suggesting a British Super League again after the European Super League failed. Guys like Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil were all about it.

"People need a sense of reality because English football doesn't need any problematic situations from Glasgow's two giants.

"They respect the size of the clubs but that is as far as it goes."
