ScotRail has issued a warning to customers to expect "major disruption" on all of its routes today as strike action continues.

Both train conductors and ticket examiners have taken part in RMT strike action over calls for a 50% increase in overtime payments for no additional hours worked, which has affected ScotRail's Sunday service.

The rail union are now calling on the First Minister to put pressure on Transport Scotland to push Abellio to negotiate a settlement.

RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said: "RMT ScotRail Conductor and Ticket Examiner members are standing firm yet again today in their fight for workplace justice and parity between grades.

"I want to pay tribute to each and every one of them.

"The political leadership in Scotland, including the First Minister herself, needs to end its silence, intervene as a matter of urgency, and put pressure on Abellio to resolve this dispute.

"It is a kick in the teeth for these workers, that despite their commitment throughout the pandemic Transport Scotland continues to wage war on essential workers who have worked tirelessly throughout the Covid-19 pandemic to keep Scotland's rail services running."

What services will run today?

  • Glasgow - Ayr (9am and every hour until 9pm)
  • Glasgow - Largs (9.40am and every hour until 8.40pm)

RMT has also announced further industrial action which will begin from midnight tomorrow.

It comes as we reported that the rail union had encouraged members at ScotRail who are Traincare workers to join the industrial action, claiming a manager had been promoted just two weeks after being found guilty of breaching policy and being removed from his original post where he was the subject of a collective grievance by 16 workers.

Those affected will stage a 24 hour walk out.
