BOMB squad experts were called to a bank in Kirkintilloch this morning after a suspected explosive was found outside.
Santander confirmed there was an incident involving their ATM machine in the early hours of this morning.
Blue and red gas canisters could be seen on the ground in front of the bank.
We previously reported that cops had taped off several streets and officers were guarding the entrance to the nearby shopping centre.
Bomb squad specialists worked to make the area safe.
A Santander spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that an incident involving our ATM took place at our Kirkintlloch branch early this morning and we are supporting the police with their investigations.
"The branch wasn’t scheduled to be open today due to the Bank Holiday, and will reopen tomorrow as usual.”
Nearby residents reported being evacuated from their homes in the early hours of the morning.
