A COMMUNITY group has paid tribute to 'kind, compassionate and caring' Esther Brown, who was found dead in her flat earlier this week.

The 67-year-old's body was discovered on Tuesday at a property on West Princes Street in the West End. Police are treating her tragic death as suspicious.

Woodlands Community Development Trust released a statement on their website today.

Ms Brown had volunteered with the organisation for over a decade where she helped to run the community cafe and served as a board member.

The group said: "We are devastated by the death of our dear friend Esther who has been a key volunteer in our organisation since 2010.

"Esther was a founding member of our community garden and her generous spirit was central to making the community garden a welcoming and inclusive place. For many years she also helped to run our community café and served on our board of charity trustees.

"Esther was an exceptionally kind, compassionate and caring individual who dedicated her life to helping others. Through her voluntary work she touched the lives and hearts of countless people and we will miss her terribly.

"Although in the immediate aftermath of Esther’s death we have had to cancel some events, we will find a way to bring people back together and help our community heal.

"Our Community Garden on West Princes Street is open for remembrance.

Earlier today we reported the minister at St Silas Church on Park Road paid tribute to her, calling her a 'genuine good samaritan.'

Police have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with her death.
