IRVINE WELSH has fans asking if his upcoming TV show will be the new Taggart.
Starring former Desperate Housewives and Dougray Scott, who once appeared in the Glasgow-based detective show, Crime is the sequel to Welsh's Filth, which was adapted for the big screen in 2013, featuring James McAvoy in the lead role.

Leith-born author Welsh, best known for his smash-hit Trainspotting, teased fans with a picture of the cast in our first look at the stars of the upcoming Britbox exclusive, set to debut later this year.
He tweeted: "Here is the Crime crew. Don't worry if you haven't heard of them, I guarantee you soon will."
One follower quipped: "Is this the new Taggart?"

We revealed previously how Scott, who starred opposite Hollywood royalty Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 2, was spotted in the Wyndford last month, filming scenes for the Edinburgh-based drama.
He plays Ray, a police officer recovering from a mental breakdown.
The show will also feature former Corrie and Holby City actor Angela Griffin, who plays Ray's fiancée.
Ken Stott, most famous for his role as Rebus in the long-running show of the same name, will also feature in the cast.
