A total of ten Orange parades are due to take place across Glasgow on the first Saturday in July as processions are permitted again.

Marches were banned under level four and three restrictions but can take place in levels two and below but with limits.

Ten parades are planned by Orange lodges including in Bridgeton, Dalmarnock, Drumchapel, Kelvingrove, Govan, Dennistoun, Parkhead, Springburn, Thornliebank and Whiteinch.

The Bridgeton parade from Bridgeton Cross to Glasgow Cross and back is planned to follow a route that avoids St Alphonsus Catholic Church on this occasion.

It was the focus of protests after Canon Tom White was assaulted by a man following a parade outside the church as it passed by.

The restrictions on parades in level two, is a maximum of 50 participants for no more than one hour.

A spokesman for the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland said: “All lodges are aware of Government Covid guidance and will comply with the latest advice.

“The Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland has held meetings with representatives of the Scottish Government, various local authorities and other relevant stakeholders as well as Police Scotland throughout the Covid pandemic.

“Orange Lodges throughout Scotland have been active within their communities providing financial support, providing food and vital supplies to those who require it.”

A spokesman for Glasgow City Council, said “We have received notifications from various groups that they intend to hold processions in early July. The latest version of the coronavirus health protection levels published by the Scottish Government permits processions at Level 2 and below, with some restrictions on the number of participants and duration.”
