THIS is the disgusting moment a rat ran into a Glasgow Greggs after binmen uncovered a rodent nest. 

It is understood the council workers were lifting rubbish in Saracen Street, Possilpark today when they made the vile find.

A video taken at the scene appears to show one rat having a fit.

Another streaks across the pavement and into the popular high street bakers.

Greggs workers were in disbelief when they were told there was a rat on the premises. 

One said: "You're at it, no there's not," when told a rat had run behind the counter. 

Once convinced the worker added: "I am f****** sick of this, it's these bins out here."

The Possilpark high street is a known hotspot for rodents and the council insist measures are in place to try tackle the problem. 

David Hume, an organiser for GMB Scotland, slammed the scenes as "another sad example of the Glasgow waste crisis which workers, businesses and citizens have had to suffer for far too long."

He added: "Bluntly, our members’ working environment is a health and safety nightmare, and this cannot continue."

Binmen should not work in rat-infested areas, a spokesman for the council who urged cleansing workers to retreat immediately and report to their supervisor if faced with a nest of rodents.

He added: "The supervisor will then liaise with our public health team who will work with owners or factors to address the problem.

“The maintenance of bin courts within private property is a matter for the owners and their factor.”

“While pest control treatments are implemented in this area of Saracen Street, bins will be placed on the street for residents to use so that our staff do not have to enter the areas of infestation.”

It is not known if the shop was forced to close or undertake any cleaning as a result of the wandering beast. 

Greggs has been approached for comment.
