PLANS have been submitted to transform a long-vacant plot of land into a warehouse that will create 800 jobs.
The Glasgow Times told earlier this year of a public consultation into a development at the Nova Business Park in Robroyston.
Now, following engagement with politicians, community councils, businesses and residents, a detailed planning application has been lodged by specialist logistics developer, Tritax Symmetry.
Matt Claxton, Planning Director at the firm, said: “Following our comprehensive public consultation, we are pleased to have submitted our planning application to Glasgow City Council.
“We have listened to and taken on board all comments raised throughout the process and are confident that they have each been addressed.
“This is an exciting opportunity to establish a state-of-the-art, environmentally sustainable facility, which will support hundreds of jobs for the Glasgow economy.
"We look forward to the opportunity of bringing this purpose built facility to the area.”
The planning application is for a 500,000 sq ft storage and distribution warehouse with offices and vehicle parking.
It will be built on a 45-acre site forming part of the Scottish Enterprise managed business park and sits alongside the existing Robroyston Retail Park off Junction 2 of the M80.
The site, allocated for commercial use in Glasgow City Council’s Local Development Plan, has remained vacant for many years.
In bringing this vacant site into use, the project will create between 700 and 800 jobs through the construction and landscaping phases.
Once HarperCollins UK Publishers Ltd has taken up occupancy, the site will support around 500 jobs.
Tritax Symmetry delivered a range of communications as part of its comprehensive public consultation, to ensure people were informed of the plans and had the opportunity to engage on matters of importance to them.
As part of the consultation, two virtual public exhibitions hosted on Thursday, June 3, providing an opportunity for participants to have live conversations with Tritax Symmetry
Flyers were also delivered to around 4500 households in the surrounding areas.
