From much-loved household names (here's looking at you, Greggs) to independent eateries, it's safe to say that some of the best bakeries in Scotland exist on these very streets.
But where's the best place to get your sugary or savoury fix?

1. Deanston, Shawlands

Just off the beaten track, you could easily miss Deanston on a visit to Shawlands. Don't.
With friendly staff, a wonderful menu, and more pastries than you could possibly imagine, this trendy Deanston Drive spot is the place to be.
"The best bagels in Glasgow," according to one of the GT team and we'd be find it hard to argue.
What do the reviewers say?: "I can't tell you how nice this place is! The bagels and sandwiches are SO full and everything is so tasty - amazing value for money."
2. Sweet Jane, Dennistoun

One of the newer venues on our list, don't let Sweet Jane's tender years fool you. It's as tasty, friendly, and full of treats as anywhere in Glasgow.
From the team behind popular brunch spot Mesa, this Duke Street bakery has, in just a little over a year, become a staple of the East End.
When recommended by one of the GT team, he simply said: "The bread." And we can see why.
What do the reviewers say?: "What a fantastic wee bakery!!! I had been looking all over for some items I needed ASAP and this bakery saved the day! The staff were absolutely wonderful, kind and so friendly."
3. Big Bear, Langside

Do you like brownies? Do you like cookies? Then you just have to try "brookies". A Big Bear delicacy, these bring together everything we love about the two treats into one mouthwatering package.
There's so much more, of course, to the Sinclair Drive spot but you'd be daft to miss out on what sets it apart.
What do the reviewers say?: "By far my favourite bakery in Glasgow! They always have such an interesting set of baked goods. Even with the lines it's always worth the wait!"
4. Akara, Dennistoun

"She does just beautiful cakes," is how one member of the team summed up Akara and who could argue. I mean, just look at them.
Also known for its sausage rolls and "Wipeout Wednesdays" - where the whole day is dedicated to one treat - Akara is just another reason why Dennistoun has been named as one of the trendiest places in the world.
What do the reviews say?: "Wonderful selection of handmade cakes, as well as many savoury items. Menu is always updated. Totally delicious. Gorgeous little cafe, would 100% recommend."
5. Riverhill, city centre

Situated in the heart of the city centre, Riverhill's live by a simple philosophy. To "produce delicious food and serve delectable coffee in stylish surroundings".
It won't take you long inside the Gordon Street spot to know they are living up to their own words.
We'd recommend the Biscoff White Chocolate Dreams. Just... wow!
What do the reviewers say?: "What a beautiful cozy Cafe! We have been here several times and every time is really nice."
6. Tantrum Doughnuts, West End and city centre

Originally a series of start-ups across the city, Tantrum Dougnuts opened its first branch in 2015 and hasn't looked back since. Packed to the brim with homemade treats, staff put "fresh, seasonal ingredients [and] local producers" at the heart of everything they do.
Will you find a batter donut anywhere else in Glasgow? We think you need to try it for yourself to decide.
What do the reviewers say?: "Great donuts, always a good selection of flavours. They’re fresh and tasty. Service is friendly and fast, and they adhere to social distancing."
7. My Home Bakery, West End and South Side

While far from the cheapest venue on this list, we're sure you'll agree My Home Bakery is worth every penny.
Specialising in artisan bread, cakes, and pastries, you'll never struggle for choice at either its West End or South Side branches.
It's easy to see why our sister title The Herald named it as one of the top ten bakeries in Scotland.
What do the reviewers say?: "Rated one of the best bakeries is Glasgow and Scotland in various places and with good reason! The cakes, sausage rolls, sweet pies and other baked goods are really quite delicious and nothing I've gotten there has disappointed."
8. Cottonrake, West End

Such is the popularity of Cottonrake, its bosses have twice made a bid to open a second bakery and it's easy to see why demand is so high.
It might be busy, but it's always worth the wait. Try the macarons. You won't be disappointed.

9. Zilch Bakery, Tradeston

While this might be one of the lesser known names on this list and exclusively vegan, don't let that put you off. If you're ever in Tradeston, make sure to check out Zilch.
When you do, don't miss its delicious croissants, sourdough loaves, and cinnamon rolls.
And as the winner of PETA's “Best Vegan Cheese", you know you're in for a tasty treat regardless if you are vegan or not.
What do the reviewers say?: "Just found this lovely gem of a place. Food is absolutely delicious, so tasty and healthy. Cake and coffee were scrumpy too. Will definitely be back."
