Talented dancers will show off their best moves to a Proclaimers classic by creating a TikTok challange which will raise money for charity.

The Glasgow University group DanceMania will be running, walking or cycling for 500 miles over this month for the Glasgow Hospital Children’s Charity.

The ambitious troupe will also dance to I’m Gonna Be (500 miles) by the Proclaimers on the social media platform TikTok - and they hope to raise £500.

Glasgow Times:

President of the dance group, Kerry Duggan, 20, from Clarkston said: “In the spirit of the charity run, it only seemed fitting that the TikTok dance be choreographed to ‘500 miles’ by the Proclaimers.

“The fun, upbeat clips will be created by our members.

“We are also hoping to expand our TikTok challenge by nominating other Glasgow University societies to learn our dance.

“The aim of the TikToks is to use what we know best - dance - to help raise awareness of our fundraiser and hopefully earn more donations for the charity.”

Kerry and 10 other dancers will be taking part in the run and TikTok awareness bid, and after raising money for Age Scotland last year, the group are hoping to raise even more money this year and smashing their £500 target.

Glasgow Times:

Kerry said: “Last year we managed to raise over £500 for Age Scotland and this year we wanted to help out another local charity.

“We chose Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity as it was a local charity that we were all familiar with.

“This cause provides children and their families with support, resources and services that they require. In particular, the charity has organised technology for the children to maintain contact with their families during the pandemic in addition to transportation to the hospital.

“We wanted to incorporate TikTok into the challenge as we thought it would be great to promote the fundraiser.”

She added: “Everyone is excited to take part and looks forward to seeing the pictures/videos of one another as we document our journey.”

Glasgow Times:

Dancer and treasurer of the dance group, Emma Thomson, 25, from Hillhead, added: “As a medical student, I love that we are able to help out a local hospital charity.

“Hopefully, anything we raise will help out Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and the children and families they support.”
