PLANS have been announced by NHS Lanarkshire for the next phase of the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

The health board has confirmed seven sites across Lanarkshire will be used to provide booster coronavirus vaccines in the autumn.

These venues will also be used to administer this year's flu vaccination programme and are in addition to a dedicated team for people who are housebound.

The sites across Lanarkshire are:

  • Airdrie Town Hall, Airdrie
  • Fernhill Community Centre, Rutherglen
  • Braidfute Retail Park, Lanark (with satellite locations TBC)
  • Link Community Centre, Cumbernauld
  • Ballerup Hall, East Kilbride
  • Banqueting Hall, South Lanarkshire Council Headquarters, Hamilton
  • Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, Motherwell

The sites have been selected with support from council colleagues, as they had to meet certain criteria, and staff conducted assessments to confirm their suitability.

Where local authority venues could not be found, NHS Lanarkshire then looked at commercial premises.

NHS Lanarkshire has confirmed it will work alongside Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) to ensure the venues have adequate public transport links.

Craig Cunningham, head of commissioning and performance at South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), said: “We have been working closely with our colleagues in North and South Lanarkshire Councils to plan for the Covid-19 booster vaccination programme.

"While all the details have not yet been confirmed, we wanted to share what we do know. We have confirmed seven sites across Lanarkshire for the next stage and we plan to also use these venues for the flu programme.

"These are in addition to a dedicated team for people who are housebound."

He added: “In the meantime, we would encourage people to attend for their first and second doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

"We are doing all we can to make sure attending for a vaccination is as easy as possible.”

Further details on the next phase of the programme will be published as and when they are confirmed.
