ITALY'S leading brewhouse concept Doppio Malto has opened its first UK venue in Glasgow tomorrow.

The 180-cover restaurant has taken over the premises which once housed Jamie's Italian in George Square.

Doppio Malto, meaning ‘double malt’, is set over two floors comprising a ground-floor beer lounge, an open ‘cucina’ kitchen and a basement bar, including an Italian ‘giardino’ area with impressive glass ceilings and traditional Terrazzo flooring.

On the drinks list, guests can expect a wide selection of Italian craft beers - 15 in total, available in bottles and on tap, and served in Doppio Malto’s famous glassware.

Interior talking points include a fitting tribute to Glasgow’s weather; a ceiling installation featuring 55 umbrellas, located on the ground level and providing a striking entrance to the venue. In the basement, guests can relax on large-scale ‘steps’ inspired by stadium seating - the perfect spot to hangout with an ice-cold beer; surrounded by a leafy Italian ‘giardino’ complete with traditional Terrazzo flooring and terracotta plant pots.

Doppio Malto CEO and founder, Giovanni Porcu, said: "Today is a momentous day for Doppio Malto. We are so proud to have opened our doors here in the UK - more specifically in George Square, the iconic centrepiece of Glasgow. ‌Italy and Scotland have many links, going back centuries, so it was the natural choice for our debut UK venue and we are so grateful for the warm welcome.”

He added, “At the very heart of Doppio Malto is our motto “un posto felice” - a ‘happy place’. Everything we do is designed around feeling good - from the food and beer to the service and physical space, and we are so excited to bring this unique concept to the UK for the very first time.”

Doppio Malto launched in 2016 and now operates 26 venues throughout Italy and France. Following a period of rapid growth, Doppio Malto’s goal is to open 100 brewhouses throughout the UK. After Glasgow, the brand has its sights set on a Newcastle opening before the end of the year.

The new Glasgow venue has created over 50 jobs for the city. The venue will open seven-days-a-week, 12pm to midnight from Sunday to Thursday; 12pm to 1am every Friday and 11.30am to 1am every Saturday.
