A THUG was caught clutching his ex-lover's unconscious head after he brutally assaulted her.
Darren Finnegan turned on his victim in the close of a flat in Glasgow's Newlands on May 8, this year.
The 29-year-old and the woman were heard arguing before Finnegan punched and kicked her to the head and body.
Officers found Finnegan holding her motionless, and had clumps of her head in his hands.
Finnegan pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting her to her severe injury.
The court heard a man heard a man and woman arguing outside his flat.
Prosecutor Claire Wallace said: "At this point, he looked through his peephole to see a man in black punch and kick a woman to the head and body."
The witness contacted the concierge and a 999 call was made.
Miss Wallace added: "Police arrived and saw Finnegan sitting holding her head as she lay unconscious face down.
"Finnegan had clumps of her hair stuck in his hand.
"She had severe bruising and swelling to the right side of her face and ear as well as blood coming from her mouth."
An ambulance arrived and took her to hospital.
Fortunately, the woman escaped without a serious injury.
Finnegan was arrested and taken to a police station meantime.
Sentence was deferred until next month pending background reports and Finnegan was remanded in custody meantime.
