A DOCTOR has been suspended from practise after he scared parents of children with cancer into seeking expensive private treatment.

At a recent hearing of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, it was heard Dr Mina Chowdhury encouraged families to seek tests at a private practice in London instead of referring them to the NHS paediatric oncology service for treatment.

In one incident, it was revealed Dr Chowdhury had diagnosed possible conditions in three children without enough evidence or examination of them.

Dr Chowdhury works as a consultant paediatrician at NHS Forth Valley but set up a private practice called Meras Healthcare which is where the parents were seen.

He also told the parents it would be "confusing" to return back to the NHS for treatment.

A previous hearing in 2019 found that Dr Chowdhury's actions were financially motivated.

The panel will meet at a later date to decide if the doctor should be struck off and banned from practising medicine.
