The pair, of Rutherglen, were also tagged for six months and five months respectively.
The court heard the pair were among a group of youths standing outside an off licence in the area’s main street.
Prosecutor Amy Hunter said: “Mr Crummer was at the doorway of a Ladbrokes when he was punched on the head and body.
“Mr Crummer ran in the bookmakers and was pursued by the two attackers.
“They continued to punch him on the head and body and repeatedly struck him with an unknown implement.
“One of the attackers picked up a stool and threw it at Mr Crummer.”
The pair fled after a member of staff told them the police had been contacted.
Officers arrived to see Mr Crummer covered in blood and he was taken to hospital.
Miss Hunter added: “He needed three stitches to a wound on the right arm and four stitches to the head.
“This will result in permanent scarring.”
One of the wounds was also described as being “incised down to the bone.”
There was no recovery of the weapon.
