Verdict three stars

SINGER Sam Fender declared his love for ‘second home’ Scotland as he wowed thousands of fans at TRNSMT tonight.

The Geordie star opened up his set with the upbeat Will We Talk? - and declared: “Scotland is my second home, I spent half my upbringing up here.”

Performing on the main stage before headliners The Courteeners, the hour-long set marked the 27-year-old’s first show in the city since he was forced to cancel two Barrowland Ballroom gigs earlier this week due to a covid scare within his tour. 
But he did say he would make it up to fans at TRNSMT and that’s a promise he kept.

He challenged the crowd, “Glasgow I want to see you go f**king mental,” before launching into the rock-fuelled Spice. 
New single Get You Down - taken from his upcoming second album Seventeen Going Under - showed promise showcasing Fender’s unique vocals.

While a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s 1984 hit Dancing in the Dark proved to be a real highlight before Fender impressed with recent single Seventeen Going Under. 
Saturday and anthem Hypersonic Missiles rounded off the set as Fender beamed, “Glasgow this has been f***ing magic for us. It’s like my homecoming.”
