SNOW Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody visited a house in the West End of Glasgow where he wrote the band’s smash hit Run today.

The singer revealed he wrote the 2004 hit - which was covered by X Factor star Leona Lewis - 20 years ago in the city.

And with the band returning to Glasgow to play TRNSMT, he decided to take a trip down memory lane.

He asked the crowd if the man who now lives in the house was amongst them before joking, “The weird guy taking pictures of your house was me. I wasn’t casing the joint.”

He then cautioned that the band were due to play London so if the house gets robbed it wasn’t them.

He beamed: “I wrote that song in Glasgow 20 years ago.

“That song went on to be the very first hit we ever had and it’s because of Scotland.”

He added: “Back in 1994, we formed in Dundee and then in 1998 we moved to Glasgow. We owe Scotland so much thank you for having us today.”

But it was Scotland who was thankful for Snow Patrol who kicked off their set before headliners The Chemical Brothers in style with Chocolate and Take Back the City.

Run proved to be a hit with the crowd while Open Your Eyes was another reminder of the hits that the Northern Irish rockers have accumulated over the years.

But it was the mega hit Chasing Cars that sent the audience wild.
