GLASGOW-based artist TAAHLIAH has told how her debut appearance at TRNSMT Festival felt "freeing" and "intoxicating".

The DJ and producer, who made a name for herself on the Berlin underground dance scene, played an hour-long set at the Glasgow Green festival's Boogie Bar on Friday.

The 23-year-old said: "It was so fun. I wasn’t too sure on what to expect but I was overwhelmingly and pleasantly surprised.

"A lot less preparation was involved. It felt more freeing and bit more intoxicating, due to the lack of rehearsal."

"I’m still figuring out what differences I like about performing different kinds of sets. Each comes with its own set of pros and cons," she added.

"All my recent sets have been some of my firsts, since COVID. It’s a journey that I’m excited to be on."

TAAHLIAH released her debut EP Angelica earlier this year and has previously expressed how she had been inspired by the late fellow Glaswegian DJ and producer SOPHIE.

The artist, who is a popular name among the queer community, explained how much it meant to see a different type of audience turn up to her TRNSMT set.

She told the Glasgow Times: "I make my music for my community, but it’s beautiful to see people out with that community supporting me as an artist.

"Experiences like that make me excited for the future. I hope it widens perspectives on representation and identity too."

Last year, the producer became the first black transgender artist to be nominated and win in two categories in the same year at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMA).

The rising star, who played a headline gig at King Tut's Summer Nights last month, told how her favourite thing about a Glasgow crowd is the "energy and the emotion".

When asked what people can expect from TAAHLIAH next, she said: "More shows, more performances, more dancing."
