RESPECTED English-based football magazine Four Four Two has named Rangers’ Ibrox Stadium as the best ground in the United Kingdom for atmosphere - with Celtic Park pipping Manchester United’s Old Trafford for second place.
“If you’re looking for the best atmosphere in British football, Glasgow is the place,” they claim.
“For the vibrancy, passion and intensity on and off the pitch, nothing on these shores compares to the match day experience at an Old Firm fixture.
Few games in the world can equal it – arguably, only Boca Junior versus River Plate [in Argentina].”
Hearts made the Top Ten in ninth place, with Tynecastle rated one higher than Wembley, and derby rivals Hibs’ Easter Road came in at No.18.
Other Scottish venues to make the list were Hampden Park (28), Ross County’s Victoria Park (34), Aberdeen’s Pittodrie (38), Dumbarton Stadium (43), Alloa Athletic’s Recreation Park (52), Brechin City’s Glebe Park (54), Fraserburgh’s Bellslea Park (57), Fort William’s Claggan Park (60), Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s Caledonian Stadium (70), Peterhead’s Balmoor Stadium (74), Arbroath’s Gayfield Park (77), Eriskay’s The Football Pitch (87) and Morton’s Cappielow (89).
