DRIVERS are being urged to book their MOT sooner rather than later as nearly 15,000 extra tests are expected in October alone.
Extensions were put in place in March 2020 to help protect public health. These extensions will now mean more vehicles need an MOT in the autumn with an extra 14,556 motors needing one come next month.
Garages are expecting a busy period so even if it is not due for a while, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency urges motorists to book early to ensure they get a slot with their usual garage.

DVSA’s Head of MOT Policy, Chris Price said: “DVSA’s priority is to help everyone keep their vehicle safe to drive.
“While we’re sure everyone will be able get a test for their vehicle, slots will be harder to come by.
“If you want to use your usual garage and guarantee a slot before your expiry date, you should give them a call now and get it booked in.”
