A BUSINESSMAN has been fined after he was clocked apparently racing another driver.

Robert Anderson, 42, was caught speeding on the Clydeside Expressway on August 4, 2018.

And he was seen chatting to another driver as they stopped at sets of red lights.

Prosecutor Paula Wedlock told Glasgow Sheriff Court: “Anderson was driving there when he stopped at a red light.

"Another car was at the red lights and the two men seemed to be having a conversation.

“They accelerated harshly when the light changed, came to the third set of lights where they stopped and continued to converse.

“At this point, they were still driving side by side on the lanes next to each other and continued to accelerate harshly.”

Police spotted them travelling at "excessive speed" before stopping the pair.

Anderson - the managing director of a heating insulation company - admitted on Thursday to a charge of careless driving.

Bob McDowall, defending, told the court: “Anderson is not a boy racer.

"He has a blue Renault and he was heading home to Yoker when this incident happened.

“The cars were pulled over and both drivers were spoken to.

"However only Mr Anderson was charged as a result.”

Sheriff Neil Mackinnon told Anderson: “You are sentenced to a fine and will get points on your licence.”

He was fined £380 and five penalty points imposed.
