PART of a murder incident that took place in broad daylight was captured on CCTV, say police. 

On Saturday afternoon, 14-year-old Justin McLaughlin was found seriously injured at High Street train station in Glasgow.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was soon after pronounced dead.

A murder inquiry has since been launched following the incident, that took place on a platform.

Brian Geddes, senior investigating officer of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, today addressed the media outside the station. 

Mr Geddes revealed that "part of the incident is captured on CCTV" and said this was a "huge advantage".

Officers are currently investigating the footage.

Mr Geddes also revealed that a weapon had been used. 

He said: "I’m aware of the information that is circulating around Justin being stabbed.

"The information that we’ve gathered today would suggest that a knife was involved in the incident, however, it's very early stages in respect of that matter and that’s something we’re looking to progress today.

"We still need the help of the public.

"I appreciate that there will be a level of concern around this incident – for me, our focus very much just now is establishing what happened yesterday afternoon and getting those answers we need for the investigation and for Justin’s family."

Glasgow Times:

The senior investigating officer went on to say that it is difficult to say whether the attack was targeted or not due to the early stage of the investigation. 

He added: " It’s something that we will keep an open mind all the way through until we know exactly what happened."

When asked if the suspect or suspects made off on foot from the station exit or by boarding a train, Mr Geddes said: "The work around the movements of all those involved and were present at the platform at the time is still under review.

"I can reassure the public there are multiple resources being focused on this just now so hopefully have those answers sooner rather than later."

Anyone who was there at the time of the incident, or who was involved, has been urged them come forward.

Detectives have set up an online portal to encourage members of the public to submit information.
