THESE pictures show the incredible transformation of an Airdrie street after one of the town's most historic buildings was torn down.
The former Orrs department store, which closed in 2007, is nearly no more after demolition work removed most of the iconic shop front from South Bridge Street.
For nearly 150 years it was the go-to place for people across North Lanarkshire but in recent times it had become an 'eyesore' sight.
Now work is underway to transform the space into 20 new-build flats and two commercial units.
Orrs closed 14 years ago and the building was bought by Clyde Valley Housing Association in 2008, but the group’s approved plans to create 14 flats plus retail units stalled, while a subsequent potential sale fell through in 2016.
