WE all scream for ice cream... and in this case it was nearly true.

Ardbeg, the Islay whisky makers, have developed a monstrous idea for Halloween - a specially-commissioned ice scream horror truck serving up scary treats.

And its cones and ice cream sandwiches have extra bite with special insect toppings.

Complete with B-movie styled tentacles and beady eyes, the truck was parked outside Drygate Brewery offering up Ardbeg-based cocktails and ice creams.

The truck took three months to design and build and comes along with Monsters of Smoke "cages" that those brave enough to try can book for 45 minute slots.

The Glasgow Times never backs down from a challenge so we took the chance to try some of the treats on offer.

First up were three terrifying cocktails: the Cherry Lipsmacker, which blends smoky tea flavours with traditional Halloweeny treacle toffee, a touch of cigar smoke and aniseed.

Then there was the Begroni, a herby and chocolately mix of flavours based around Ardbeg's Wee Beastie cocktail.

And then the New Fashioned, using Ardbeg Ten Years Old to create a sweet and spicy cocktail with peat oil and blackcurrant and a bit of cinnamon toffee.

These were more delicious than frightful... but Ardbeg was saving the real scares for the ice cream.

Glasgow Times:

All the ice cream serves were created with the founder of renowned artisanal ice cream parlour Ruby Violet.

I tried an Ahhh No! bar - a Lapsang Souchong ice cream that was incredibly intense and smoky with an Ardbeg An Oa caramel centre coated in white chocolate.

It was nicely presented in a kidney dish with a syringe of raspberry puree to squeeze over the top.

The other two ices on offer came with an unusual twist... they both contained insects.

The Cookies & Scream was an Ardbeg Wee Beastie ice cream sandwich with charcoal cookies... and coated crunchy mealworms.

While the Ice Cream Groan was a charcoal cone, filled with Ardbeg Ten smoky blackcurrant ice cream, and finished with a toffee brittle shard filled with crickets.

The ice cream was intensely boozy and very delicious but while my terrified companion struggled valiantly with the crickets, he gave up in the end.

Ardbeg's monstrous truck was in London and then stopped in Glasgow but if you fancy trying the insect ice cream for yourself, the van in in Edinburgh today.

The ice creams are available to buy from the Ice Scream truck and are free for existing Ardbeg Committee Members.
