TWO security guards on a cruise ship accomodating thousands of COP26 delegates have been arrested.

The men, aged 20 and 23, were arrested on Wednesday, in connection with an alleged assault and threatening behaviour on the ship, which is currently docked in Greenock.

The vessel was hired to accommodate thousands of COP26 delegates.

She was brought in - along with another vessel, docked in Govan - to alleviate the pressure on hotels, as thousands of people descended on the city for the major global conference.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Two men aged 20 and 23, were arrested and are subject of a report to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service in connection with an alleged assault and threatening behaviour whilst onboard a cruise ship docked in Greenock around 11.10am on Wednesday, November 3.

"No weapons were involved and no stabbings were reported."

Meanwhile, police were handed a penknife, a Swiss card pocket tool, a ‘break glass’ hammer and a set of nunchucks after visiting the other cruise ship, in Govan.

Police attended on October 28, as part of a project to deter, detect and disrupt a range of criminal activity, including terrorism.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers engaged in a routine visit to a ship in Govan and were handed four items which had been discarded on board and recovered by security staff.

"These were passed to police officers for destruction. The items comprised of a small penknife, a Swiss card pocket tool, a ‘break glass’ hammer and a set of nunchucks.

"There is no information to suggest these items have been used in criminality or were intended for this purpose."
