A global hotel chain has announced the opening of a new hotel at Glasgow’s SEC.
The Moxy Glasgow SEC has opened its doors just before the COP26 summit in the Finnieston area, as part of Moxy Hotels, Marriott’s “experiential hotel brand”.
Located near the OVO Hydro, Armadillo, the Exhibition Centre, SWG3, as well as Finnieston’s restaurants and bars, the new hotel reflects the “fun vibe” of the area.

It offers 243 bedrooms and “Showtime décor” as a nod to the events happening on its doorstep, including a “plethora of quirky musical paraphernalia” and graffiti art.
Each bedroom showcases “efficient design”, with 13 suites also including a lounge area with sofa bed.
Guests will be able to enjoy communal spaces as well as private events.
The hotel was designed with the environment in mind, with a prefabricated modular build, mobile keys, recycling facilities and bulk toiletries to minimise plastic use.

General manager David Steele said: “COP26 was our first piece of business and the hotel was full for the duration.
“It’s been a challenging year for the hospitality industry but to open and have every bedroom full for the conference was a great way to kick off this fabulous new hotel.”
Donovan Sumner, regional director of operations UK for Hotel Co. 51, the operating company for Moxy Glasgow SEC, added: “Glasgow is a great city and we’re proud to make this our 13th UK opening.
“We continue to embrace the cheeky and free spirited atmosphere that Moxy has become famous for.
“We’re delighted to have David at the helm and we look forward to welcoming guests looking for something different in the hotel arena where the Moxy personality gets to shine through.”
