FOUR college students are creating a charity calendar to relaunch an initiative supporting cancer patients regaining their confidence after hair loss.

Make-up artistry student Lindsay McIntosh, 30, from East Kilbride, along with classmates Fiona Pryce, Rachel Bell, and Janine Stanley, is organising the initiative as part of her course.

The New College Lanarkshire students hope the calendar will help revive the college’s own charity, My Hair and Me, which used to provide services to cancer patients and survivors who experienced hair loss from treatment.

Lindsay said: “My Hair and Me used to be a safe place for them to go and get the support they needed.

“They could get fitted for wigs, or get other treatments, to try and help them get through the disease, but it hasn’t been running for years.

“We thought the calendar would be a good opportunity to get as much exposure as possible and get some sponsors to get the charity up and running again.

She added: “We feel extremely privileged that we were asked to organise the calendar shoot.

“It’s a subject close to our hearts so we hope the calendar helps raise more awareness about this amazing charity and the money raised goes towards helping those affected.”

The calendar, whose proceeds will go to cancer charities, will have pictures of cancer patients and survivors who have been affected by hair loss.

The students helped by giving the models a full make-over.

“It’s just about bringing them in, making them up and making them feel good,” said Lindsay.

“The photo shoot was an emotional experience for us all and we felt really inspired listening to all these women's stories.

“They are all incredibly strong and we are glad we could be part of this amazing shoot.”

An initiative started by the college’s lecturers, My Hair and Me supported cancer patients referred directly from charities like Glasgow’s Beatson Cancer Charity.

The calendar will be available to buy directly from the students over the Christmas season, by emailing 30022803@my.nclan.ac.uk or 30000212@my.nclan.ac.uk
