BUTCHERS and bakers in and around the city are in the run for the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards.
The prestigious pastry awards celebrate different delicacies, including Scotch Pie, Football Pies & Savouries, Macaroni Pie, Steak Pie, Sausage Roll, Cold Savoury, Hot Savoury, Vegetarian Savoury, Haggis Savoury, Bridie and Apple Pies.
From the Greater Glasgow area, many popular eateries have been nominated for the prize, including:
- Christie the Baker from Airdrie
- James Chapman (Butchers) Ltd from Wishaw
- Mortons Savouries Ltd from Coatbridge
- Pars Foods Ltd from Glasgow
- Peter's Bakery from Kirkintilloch
The experts, including Head Judge Ian Nelson are assessing a number of qualities in the pies, such as appearance, consistency and taste.
The awards will celebrate the UK's tastiest pies for the 22nd time this year, and the winners will be announced at a lunch on January 18 at the Westerwood Hotel in Cumbernauld, hosted by Carole Smilie.
