The world of football has shown its respect to Lisbon Lion legend Bertie Auld by attending his funeral today.

Players past and present were pictured outside the gates of St Mary's Church in the Calton in Glasgow's East End this afternoon attending the service with many familiar faces also captured by photographers at Celtic Park.

Described as one of Scottish football's great characters, he died aged 83 on November 14. It was revealed earlier this year that he had been battling dementia. 

The midfielder scored 85 goals in 283 appearances over two spells for Celtic, the most famous game of which was the 1967 European Cup final win against Inter Milan in the Portuguese capital.

Former Celtic managers Neil Lennon and Brendan Rodgers attended the funeral as well as current gaffer Ange Postecoglou and assistant manager John Kennedy.

Other familiar faces included Lisbon Lions Jim Craig, John Hughes and John Clark, former goalkeeper Alan Rough, Celtic legend Danny McGrain as well as the current Celtic squad stars Anthony Ralston, Albian Ajeti, Boli Bolingoli and Kyogo Furuhashi.

Lord Willie Haughey spoke at the service alongside Jim Craig and Ian Cairns. 

A cortege will pass by Celtic Park and last respects will be paid at the Celtic Way before a private cremation by his family. 
Celtic will broadcast the funeral live at the stadium.
