A HOUSEPLANT pop-up shop with a focus on sustainability is due to open in Glasgow city centre.
Shop owner Jordan Trainer opened Green Living Glasgow in Partick during the coronavirus lockdown, in August 2020.
Now, at only 22 and inspired by the COP26 climate talks held in the city last month, Jordan is opening his second venture, Green Living Pop Up.

The permanent pop-up shop will be located inside the Glasgow Bed Centre, in Merchant City, and will supply ethically sourced houseplants with minimal use of plastic.
“I always knew the positive effects plants have on the environment and people’s mental health,” said Jordan. “However COP26 was a great eye-opener as to what I could do as a small business to help with the climate crises.
“The houseplant market like many other types of industry has areas which need to be improved on.
“Plastic waste is probably the most important to tackle first, which is why we only source from suppliers that will reuse plastic trays and packaging and sourcing plastic-free materials.
“This is a positive step forward and something I will be focusing on with the new pop-up shop as well as my current store in Partick.”

Besides stocking plant pots and packaging made from biodegradable materials such as cardboard and newspaper, the shop will also offer ethically-sourced plants and peat-free soil alternatives.
Regular potting soil normally contains high levels of peat, whose extraction process from peatlands emits harmful greenhouse gases like CO2 into the atmosphere, adding to global warming.
Being housed inside an existing store, said Jordan, also has its benefits: “We just use a space that is already there, so, for example, we're not using any more electricity when we’re open, or use up any extra resources to set up our own space.
“It is quite a big space and the Glasgow Bed Centre wanted to put it to good use as well, so that’s how we got together. Hopefully it will be there for quite a while.”

In addition to eco-friendly options for your indoor jungle, Jordan will also stock other Glasgow-based businesses such as Southside Atelier’s hand-painted terracotta plant pots, botanical soaps by Haelsa Handmade Herbals and ethically-sourced minerals and rocks from Glasgow Crystals.
Green Living Pop Up will open inside Glasgow Bed Centre at 61 High Street on December 10.
