A Glasgow based beer company has joined forces with charitable café owners Social Bite to help provide vital support for those in need this Christmas.

As part of Social Bite’s 'Festival of Kindness’, ethical B-corp Brewgooder has launched a new campaign to educate drinkers on how to donate to their nearest foodbank.

Brewgooder founder Alan Mahon, who previously studied at Glasgow University, says that he is particularly eager to give back to what was once his local community.

He said: “The heart of our business is in Glasgow and it’s a city that I love.

“I came of age there and I know that it has the potential to do brilliant things because its people are amazing.

“But there are also a lot of social issues that need to be tackled.

“If there’s any way that we can make a small impact on that, or inspire people to do the same, then that’s something that makes me really proud.”

After leaving University, Alan spent time working with Social Bite co-founder Josh Littlejohn MBE and played a pivotal role in the successful Sleep in the Park campaign which has since raised millions of pounds to help Scots out of homelessness.

The duo even helped to bring Hollywood A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio to Social Bite’s Edinburgh café back in 2016 to raise awareness of homelessness in Scotland.

Now, Alan feels that the Festival of Kindness campaign is the perfect opportunity to reunite with his former colleagues.

He said: “It felt like the right time to come together with Social Bite to help and support them in the work they do in Glasgow and across the country.

“We’re matching donations, so if someone purchases a food voucher that costs fiver with their order of beers, we’ll top it up to a tenner.

“We think it’s a great way to go about it because if people are showing such amazing generosity, then we can do our bit and double it.”

As well as matching donations, the team at Brewgooder have found an innovative way to make sure that every part of their delivery service is designed to share the spirit of giving this holiday season.

Alan said: “The outer boxes of our packaging has been designed to encourage people to gift donations.

“There’s a QR code on them which means you’ll be able to locate your nearest foodbank.

“It’s a really small thing for us to do, but hopefully it will inspire people to think about how they can actively get involved in helping those in need.

“Something as simple as putting your beers into the fridge could be a prompt to do something caring for other people.

“I think when people, in Glasgow or anywhere in the world, find an easy way to help someone, they’ll do it.

“I genuinely believe that.”

The Festival of Kindness campaign hopes to provide 300,000 meals gifts, and essential items for homeless and vulnerable people in Scotland.

Social Bite co-founder Josh Littlejohn said: "It's great to have Alan and his team's support for our Festival of Kindness.

“We've worked together closely on so many projects in the past but this is the first time Social Bite and Brewgooder have come together in a campaign and I am excited to see where it goes."
