COUNCIL bosses have apologised for delays which have led to overflowing bins across the city. 

Glasgow City Council took to social media today where they said they were "very sorry" for the issue.

Delays have been blamed on staff absences due to Covid-19, illness and leave over the festive period.

Residents have been reassured that collections are "mainly back to normal" but some streets and areas may be missed due to high levels of staff absence. A statement on the council's website read: "Due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant as well as other forms of covid-19, higher numbers of staff in our cleansing service are unavailable to work as normal.  

"The majority of our scheduled collection routes are due to resume on Monday, January 17, however, it is expected there will be delays in certain neighbourhoods as a result of high levels of absence. Residents who present their bins at the kerbside should continue to do so as normal until they have been serviced.

"We apologies for any inconvenience this may cause."

The Glasgow Times has reported bin overflows in the West End and yesterday, Glasgow comedian Kevin Bridges took to social media to complain about bin collection delays. He said: "Some buzz if Glasgow City Council just never emptied the bins again.

"A month. Mental."
