DEVELOPERS have revealed they will soon be handing over the keys for the eagerly awaited The Range store in the West End.

An £11.3m deal will see the site at the Great West Retail Park handed over to The Range bosses in just a matter of weeks.

Work to construct the DIY and furniture superstore began in January last year with the aim of doors finally opening at the end of 2021.

After a four-year process to break ground, residents praised the beginning of work at the site for the 53,000sq ft unit.

Keir Property hoped that the shop would open early this year to bring "long-overdue investment" to the area.

The firm has confirmed that the development is currently pre-let to The Range and Connection Flooring, but it will be fully handed over once practical completion is achieved in March.

Leigh Thomas, managing director for Kier Property commented: "It’s great to finally bring this site forward which will bring much-needed development and employment to this part of Glasgow.

"Long-dated income has remained resilient in a challenging market and it’s fantastic to get this concluded with Fiera Real Estate”.

It is anticipated that the development will bring dozens of jobs to the area as it replaces the former Goodyear tyre factory, which closed more than two decades ago.

The home, garden and leisure retailer, which also has stores in London Road, Linwood and Greenock, will be the latest in a series of new additions to the retail park.

In recent years, a number of retail giants have joined the Allerdyce Road development.

McDonald’s, Starbucks and KFC joined the likes of B&Q, Sainsbury’s and B&M.

The Glasgow Times approached The Range for an official opening date.
