Glasgow residents were left puzzled when they were awoken by fireworks early on Tuesday morning.
Many took to social media to find the cause of the racket between midnight and 1am.
First guesses hinted at celebrations for Rangers' latest signing, Aaron Ramsey, but the real reason had nothing to do with football.
Are these fireworks in Glasgow... For Ramsey? Lunar new year?

The fact everyone assumed the fireworks were due to Rangers signing Aaron Ramsey and not Chinese New Year is a superb illustration of how unhinged Glasgow is as a city

The fireworks were being let off across the city to celebrate Chinese New Year.
While 2022 has been well underway in the Gregorian calendar, Chinese New Year is calculated according to the Lunar calendar.

February 1 kicks off a two-week celebration for Chinese communities around the world, which concludes with the famous Spring Lantern Festival.
Each year is associated with one of the twelve zodiac animals, and 2022 will be the year of the tiger, the king of all animals in the Chinese tradition, symbolising strength, exorcising evils, and braveness.
According to Scottish Government regulations, from June 2021, fireworks may only be used by the general public between 6pm and 11pm.
However, like Guy Fawkes, New Year's Eve and Diwali, Chinese New Year is an exception.
On these days, fireworks are permitted from 6pm until 1am.
