Football’s transfer window deadline days have become a monster, haven’t they? Money, money, money.
It’s the two days of the year when the most common question you are asked might not be “Busy the day driver?”
As it’s often overtaken by “You picked up any footballers from the airport today to take to Celtic Park / Ibrox / Firhill?”
All good fun although supporters of all clubs can get a little bit over hyped and stressed about it all.
Such as around Monday teatime when, eager for news of another signing, Partick Thistle fans with their notifications on were greeted to the club's latest social media update that the Thistle-branded taxi would be helping transport fans before the game last night.
That wasn’t the update they were after!
You don’t need to look far to find more evidence of taxis being dragged into transfer deadline day chat in this city.
Here’s just a few of the tweets which appeared on Monday as the clock ticked down … “Busy day on here for guys who's (sic) uncle drives a taxi at Glasgow airport”
“My mum's friend's son's work mate's brother is a taxi driver who spoke to another taxi driver who said that they definitely saw Aaron Ramsey at Glasgow Airport.”
“Taxi Drivers of Glasgow, what players have you picked up from Glasgow Airport and took to Mr Singhs, Ibrox, Auchenhowie so far today?”
Plus multiple claims that John Souttar was in a taxi from Edinburgh to Glasgow … All a good laugh – that magic combination of Glasgow humour and passion for the beautiful game.
Things have calmed down today (Tuesday) as I write this and calm they will stay … for about another 24 hours.
Until 7.45pm on Wednesday when they reach boiling point again!
Then around two hours later we might see more Glasgow Taxi mentions on social media as fans of whichever side is disappointed request the use of a taxi to take as far away as possible whichever player (or players) has most let the side down.
Scottish football – it’s bonkers, always throwing up surprise storylines and new heroes and villains.
And we wouldn’t transfer it for anything else!
Stay safe.
