A SECTION of a busy road near Glasgow is due to close overnight for two weeks to allow "investigation" works.

The A725 will be shut in both directions in a phased manner between A7071 near Raith Junction & Shawhead Junction (North Road).

The stretch will be closed from 8pm to 6am, from Monday 21 February 2022 to Friday 4 March 2022, inclusive, for bridge inspections and carriageway investigation works.  

Transport Scotland says the works are planned to be undertaken in two phases to allow "essential bridge inspections and carriageway investigation". 

Phase one will go from Monday 21 to Friday 25, with the possibility to be extended until Monday 28.

The A725 southbound carriageway will be closed overnight between Shawhead Junction (North Road) and Raith Junction on slip road from Raith roundabout.

As a result, the following link road and slip roads will also be closed:

  • M8 westbound link road to A725 southbound at Junction 7A Shawhead
  • A725 southbound Diamond Junction (James Street) off slip road
  • A725 southbound Diamond Junction (James Street) on slip road
  • A725 southbound Bellziehill Junction off slip road
  • A725 southbound Bellziehill Junction on slip road
  • A725 southbound Orbiston Junction off slip road
  • A725 southbound Orbiston Junction on slip road
  • A725 southbound Raith Junction off slip road to Raith roundabout and Strathclyde Country Park

Phase two will then go from Monday 28 to Thursday, March 3 and Friday 4 if necessary.

The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight between A7071 near Raith Junction and Shawhead Junction (North Road).

As a result, the following slip roads will also be closed:

  • A725 northbound Raith Junction on slip road from Raith roundabout
  • A725 northbound Orbiston Junction off slip road
  • A725 northbound Orbiston Junction on slip road
  • A725 northbound Bellziehill Junction off slip road
  • A725 northbound Bellziehill Junction on slip road
  • A725 northbound Diamond Junction (James Street) off slip road
  • A725 northbound Strathclyde Business Park off slip road
