A BUILDING firm has been awarded a £7.9 million housing contract to transform brownfield sites in the East End of Glasgow.
Cruden Building (West), part of the Cruden Group, has been appointed by Calvay Housing Association to build affordable homes in Barlanark.
The new build development will span Garvel Crescent and Blyth Road and include 37 new units.
Bosses pledged the homes would be energy efficient.
Allan Callaghan, Managing Director of Cruden Building said: “We are excited to start work on this important development and to provide much needed affordable homes that deliver as much on quality, as they do on energy efficiency."

The brownfield sites will be developed to include 37 units of affordable housing at Garvel Crescent with a further six units being constructed on the Blyth Road site.
The new energy-efficient homes will comprise a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses and cottage flats.
Dedicated landscaped parking courts will also be a feature of the new development.
A Glasgow-based design team for this project included the award-winning practice, MAST Architects, and Clyde Design Partnership.
Work is due to start on site in March 2022 and is expected to be completed by Spring 2023.
Allan added: “At Cruden, we give back to the communities we build in, and on this project, we will provide a range of community benefits, including valuable apprenticeship opportunities and an additional £5000 in funding for Calvay Housing Association to support even more community housing initiatives in the Glasgow area.”

The Glasgow Times first told in 2019 how Calvay Housing Association had submitted a planning application for the 37 homes.
A planning report stated: "From the 1950s the site housed a series of residential properties, demolition of which was carried out between 1999 and 2017.
"There is significant residential development surrounding the site, primarily two storey semi-detached blocks with four storey flatted blocks to both the north and south."
Parking was raised at the time as an issue for the area with planners proposing parking court areas overlooked by the homes.
The report added: "The parking courts are located in areas which add to the streetscape and also tie in with the proposed landscape."
There are two primary schools within walking distance of the land, Sandaig School and Eastmuir School, and a secondary school, Newhills School.
