A DRINK driver was caught after cops pulled him over because the vehicle was making sparks.

Kyle Fisher, 29, was behind the wheel of the car on Gartloch Road in Glasgow’s East End on January 9 this year.

He was more than double the limit and driving without a full licence or insurance.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, fiscal depute Paula Wedlock said: “At 8.50pm the accused was observed within the vehicle by police officers.

“The near offside tyre had blown out, however, the accused continued to drive. The wheel rim was making contact with the road, causing sparks to fly.

“The car was signalled to pull over. Police observed the accused within the driver’s seat and a female within the passenger seat.

“They suspected him to be under the influence. Checks were carried out and he was found to be driving with no insurance and a provisional licence.

“He failed the roadside breath test and was conveyed to Cathcart police office. No reply was made to caution and charge.”

Fisher was also charged with breaching a curfew, imposed by Paisley Sheriff Court, ordering him to stay within his home from 7pm-7am.

His lawyer said: “There is a record but nothing of an analogous nature. He is in a relationship and has children.

“He explained that his female friend was the driver of the vehicle, however, when the tyre blew, she panicked. He took over to get the car off a motorway and into a safer place.

“He underestimated the level of alcohol in his system. He accepted full responsibility from the outset and has expressed remorse.

“He is currently on a community payback order in Paisley with a review due in March.

“He has completed 163 out of 180 hours of unpaid work. He is engaging with the support put in place for him and is working towards overcoming his difficulties.”

Fisher, of Renfrew, was fined £420 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
