Plans have been put forward for an investment programme to maintain and improve a Glasgow park.

Victoria Park Community Trust has drawn up a vision for a number of areas within the park.

The park, in the west of the city, has bowling greens which have been unused for several years, an area which was once red ash football pitches and a hard tennis courts area, which saw the old pavilion burned down, then demolished, last year.

Glasgow Times:

The community trust has devised a plan for investment over a number of years.

It includes converting the old red ash pitches site into an adventure playground for older children who are too old for the traditional junior playpark.

Glasgow Times:

It envisages larger climbing frames, climbing nets, zip lines and also possibly a possible picnic area. The path created by park users cutting across the area would be converted into a new avenue of trees.

Plans for the bowling greens include an outdoor activity space, as it has been used by groups for outdoor exercise classes during lockdown.

A new cafe is suggested near the pond which is a focal point where people meet.

The Community Trust said: “There is no permanent cafe facility building and mobile units occupy the area on an annual franchise basis.

Glasgow Times:

“The toilet block is a functional set of portacabins but is in need of some upgrading at least to improve their visual appearance.

“The ambition is to have a fully functioning cafe and toilet facility within the park, possibly incorporating a community room available for meetings, events etc.”
