A POPULAR restaurant in Glasgow has been awarded with a Michelin star.

Unalome in Finnieston is the first solo venture by award-winning chef Graeme Cheevers and today's announcement shows that his culinary efforts have paid off.

Michelin have given the prestiguous award on account of Unalome's 'boldness and a sophistication' in the cooking, and have said it is worth a visit for the full tasting menu and the 'thoughtfully considered' wine pairings.

It brings up the total of Michelin stars to be awarded to Glasgow restaurants up to two after Cail Bruich received the coveted award last year.

Previously, the last star was held by Gordon Ramsay’s Amaryllis, which closed its doors in 2004.

Unalome was opened by Graeme in June 2021 and draws influences from mainly European dishes with a flavour of Japan.

The posh eatery previously won three AA rossettes after an inspector was impressed with their 'vibrant modern Scottish cooking', and Graeme already has two Michelin stars to his name.

One of the most important aspects of the restaurant is its sustainability - their state-of-the-art kitchen is powered by electricity from 100% green sources, an Evogro plant growing system, and an enzyme-based cleaning products and water saving toilets.

Graeme said of the opening: “We have been delighted with the response from guests since opening in June.

"We had been due to start welcoming diners earlier in the year, and once restrictions started easing it was a great relief to finally be able to share our hard work and new dishes with the fantastic people of Glasgow."
