A BIKE hire station next to a major Southside park is going electric.
The Nextbike station at Queen's Park is to be improved to include pedal assist electric bikes and charging equipment.
Sitting at the junction of Balvicar Street and Pollokshaws Road, the hub is ideally placed for people cycling to the park and local shops.
A statement to local councillors reads: "The upgrade...will open the scheme up to a wider audience and ensure that more members of the public can benefit from choosing active travel.
"The additional infrastructure will be placed adjacent to the current cycle hire station and will involve minor excavations, as an electrical connection to the docking pedestals is required.
"The existing hire station shall remain in operation during the upgrade."
Work is expected to be completed before March 31.
Local councillor Soryia Siddique said: "E-bikes are becoming more popular and their availability and infrastructure is important.
"These additional bikes could potentially encourage more cycling in Southside Central.
"They also provide options for a more sustainable form of transport and are a further step toward decarbonising our travel."
