A NEW wheeled sports area has been opened in Kilsyth.
The new facility provides space for young people and children to enjoy a variety of wheeled sports including skateboarding, scooters and skates.
The area has been opened following community involvement and an investment of £65,750 allocated from the Local Development Programme.
It was declared open by local councillor and Provost of North Lanarkshire Council Jean Jones at a community event on Tuesday, February 15.
Provost Jones said: "We are delighted to support this development and pleased that funding from the Local Development Programme can provide such a fantastic facility for young people in the area."
The event was also attended by representatives from Rennie Road Community Alliance, councillor Heather Brannan-McVey, chair of Kilsyth Community Board Bill Craik and local residents.
Rennie Road Community Alliance highlighted the need for a skate facility and the group worked closely with staff from the council's Community Partnership Team at every stage of the development to make sure the project reflected the community's goals.
The group will continue to work with the team on other developments to benefit local youngsters and a bid will be submitted soon for funding for a multi-use games area next to the new facility.

If successful, it would see the old blaes pitch on Rennie Road transformed into a play and recreation space.
