A GLASGOW city centre Poundland has permanently closed.
The company confirmed today when asked by The Glasgow Times that one of their city centre stores will not reopen.
The shop had closed at the start of last year as part of a "temporary hibernation" amid a third national lockdown.
Now, bosses have confirmed the store on Union Street will not reopen after the lease on the unit expired at the end of last year.
A spokesperson said: "We don’t have any stores in hibernation and haven’t had for some time.
"Our lease for the Union Street store expired in October 2021 so I’m afraid that’s why we were unable to reopen it.
"We sadly cannot go back because our lease wasn’t renewed by the landlord."

We previously reported that the temporary closure had come in response to an 80 per cent drop in footfall in UK high streets as the country faced stricter restrictions due to a surge in Covid cases.
The chain had closed outlets from January 9, 2021.

At the time, Austin Cooke, Poundland’s retail director said: “We learned valuable lessons during the lockdown in March about how buying patterns change as people stick to government advice to stay at home.
“Putting a small number of stores into hibernation helps protect them for the long term and focus our attention on the majority of stores that remain open to serve their neighbourhoods.
“We hope this lockdown is short and we can re-open our hibernating stores as quickly as possible and we remain grateful for the vital support schemes available to us that help protect jobs.”
The other Poundland city centre stores on Sauchiehall Street, Argyle Street and Trongate remain open.
